Edible Berry Bushes You Can Include In Your Garden

I wrote about edible landscaping in an earlier article.  Going more in depth now, this article discusses five edible berries you can include in your garden.  Berries make a great addition to edible landscaping.  Here’s a few ideas which berry bushes you might want to include.

1.  Blueberries

Blueberries are delicious when baking pancakes, muffins or cobbler.  They freeze well too.  I freeze blueberries all the time for use in my smoothies.  With blueberries, you can also use them to make blueberry sauce or syrup.

Blueberries are also a great source of antioxidants and of flavonoids, both great health benefits.

2.  Strawberries

Strawberries are another great addition to your edible landscaping.  You can grow strawberries in hanging baskets, garden beds and containers.  Strawberries are delicious in a strawberry pie or just to eat by themselves as a snack.  If you want a special treat, you can dip them in chocolate.  You can slice them and top your yogurt with them or on cereal.

One cup of strawberries contain 150 percent of your daily Vitamin C requirement.  This is another berry with some health benefits.

3.  Raspberries

Raspberries are another popular one and would be a great addition to your garden.  They are great for baking muffins and breads.  You can even bake cookies with them.  They will add great color to whatever you decide to bake.

This is another berry with many health benefits.  They include nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin B6, manganese and magnesium.  They also provide dietary fiber.

4.  Blackberries

You might want to consider planting some blackberries, as they are very easy to grow.  You can use them to make delicious jelly and jams.  They taste great in trifles and you can even add them to a salad.

Blackberries contain a variety of antioxidants and vitamins which help prevent a number of diseases, including cancer.

5.  Gooseberries

Gooseberries are not as well known as the other berries I have mentioned, but they are still worth considering to add to your garden.  Gooseberries have many varieties and many uses.  These berries make a wonderful and delicious unique pie.  They can also be made into cordials and sweet or savory sauces.

Gooseberries also have many antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, which are beneficial to your health and wellness.

There are many different varieties of berry bushes you can include in your edible landscaping.  Consider adding a few different ones.  Do some research and find out how to grow them organically so you can get the maximum health benefits from them.  And once they are ripe, experiment and have fun trying different ways to use them.  Then you’ll want to always include berry bushes in your edible landscaping!
