Edible landscaping – sounds fun to me! Edible landscaping is more than just growing edible plants. It’s become so popular recently and it’s a great way to get creative with your garden. Although you want to grow edible plants, you can also include non-edible plants. You will want to put a lot of thought into a plan for your edible landscaping.
What Exactly is Edible Landscaping?
Your edible landscaping will include fruits, vegetables, and herbs. But it doesn’t have to be limited to just those. You can include your favorite non-edible plants, bushes and even trees.
Rather than just another fruit and vegetable garden, you will take your edible landscaping to another level with a visually pleasing plan. It will be awesome to look at.
You can get creative while having your edible plants be the main focus. Then you can add beautiful trees, bushes, non-edible plants and even hanging plants. The whole area will look awesome. So, it’s more than just a garden. You can give the whole edible landscaping a lot of thought to not only look beautiful, but to include all your favorite fruits, veggies and herbs. Growing tomatoes is one of my favorite edible plants and will be included in my edible landscaping for sure 🙂
If you are interested in edible landscaping and you have the time to devote to it, you can do this! You don’t need to be a gardening expert. It will work whether you have a large area for it or a small area. You can make a sketch of your available area for your edible landscaping and use your creativity to form a plan. Besides all I mentioned above, you can also have an edible landscape including rocks, grass, open space and even some walls.
As you can probably guess, living in an area with plenty of sun year round would be the best situation for your edible landscaping. But you can make it happen no matter where you live. You will just want to do some research and find out what fruits, veggies and herbs do well in the area you live in.
It will be fun to get together with others who love to garden in your area and see what types of edible fruits, vegetables and herbs and non-edible plants they recommend for your area. Another idea is to visit your local garden centers and see what they say.
How To Start Your Edible Landscaping Adventure
After you have done your research and found what plants grow best in your area, then make a list of your favorite edible plants that you would like to include in your edible landscaping. Also add your favorite non-edible plants and your favorite flowers you would like to include.
Now you can get your creative mind going and figure out how you want it to all come together into a beautiful garden. Even though you want it to look awesome, you also want it to have functionality.
Edible landscaping will be around for a long time because we are always looking for ways to see what we love to see and at the same time, have it serve a purpose and a well thought-out edible landscaping accomplishes this. Go forth and create some awesome edible landscaping!
