Health Benefits of Kombucha

Health Benefits of Kombucha

Today I tried Kombucha for the first time. It tasted fizzy. It’s actually a fermented tea that has many different types of microorganisms that help with having a strong digestive and immune system. I actually enjoyed drinking it. The health benefits of kombucha are numerous. I was hesitant to try it since I thought it was going to taste strange but it tastes good. I like that fizzy feel to it, which is different than most of my drinks.

What are fermented foods you might ask? Well, a very general description might be to say they are foods that have been cultured by adding healthy bacteria. Then the bacteria munch on the sugars in the food and break it down. They are also known as cultured foods. I will talk more about fermented foods in a later article but for now, I want to focus on kombucha and the health benefits of kombucha since I had it for the first time this morning. The bottle of kombucha I had this morning was store bought but you can also make it at home. It’s made by GT’S Living Foods at gtslivingfoods.com. I purchased my bottle of kombucha at a local grocery store.

I did some research on kombucha and learned that this tea has been used for centuries in the Far East as a method to increase energy, boost the immune system, enhance mood and lose weight while stabilizing the digestive system. Those are some of the health benefits of kombucha.

What is Kombucha?

It’s made from tea, sugar, clean water and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts. Kombucha has a bit of a pungent flavor so many people prefer to add something to it if you are making it from home. You can add fruit by adding the juice of the fruit or just by stirring in little pieces of the fruit. You can also flavor with herbs and spices. You can also combine these with the fruit you might add. Some spices and herbs that work really well with kombucha are basil, mint, vanilla bean, lemon and orange zest, crushed cinnamon sticks, fresh ginger, rosemary and fennel seed. Another way of changing / adjusting the flavor of kombucha is by starting with a different tea.

If you try some kombucha and enjoy it, there are kombucha kits on Amazon for making your own kombucha at home. That would definitely be a cheaper alternative.

What are some health benefits of Kombucha?

One of the health benefits of kombucha that is the most common reason people choose to drink kombucha is for improved digestion and overall gut health. The good bacteria in this drink can clear your digestive tract, give you better routine digestion, break down foods and help clear your colon. And this can help with other health benefits in your body too.

It also helps clear your digestive tract which reduces the inflammation throughout your system. As the inflammation works out of your system, you’ll start feeling relief with your muscle and joint pain that was directly related to that inflammation. As that happens, you can become more active and not be so stressed out and tense.

If you drink kombucha on a daily basis, you’ll start to feel less fatigue and instead, more energized during the day.

Another one of the health benefits of kombucha is that it is also known to help in detoxification of the liver. And this can help to prevent cancer and counteract the negative effects of the many toxins we come in contact with on any given day.

Drinking kombucha is also known to keep yeast in balance. It has also been reported that people who have fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression have had their symptoms reduced by drinking kombucha.

So if you are looking for a way to boost probiotics while enjoying a delicious beverage, not to mention the numerous health benefits of kombucha, kombucha could be your answer. If you drink it daily, you will notice an overall improvement in your wellness. These are just some of the numerous health benefits of kombucha. I know I will keep drinking it and maybe even start making my own in the future. That could prove to be a lot of fun!
