Starting My Indoor Gardening Adventure

Starting My Indoor Gardening Adventure

Let’s talk about indoor gardening.  When I first decided to live a more healthy lifestyle, for me it had to be fun. One of the ways I’m having fun is growing my own fruits and veggies. Let me clarify that. Last summer I had my first two tomato plants that I grew outside and it was so fun watching them grow and those tomatoes were the most delicious tomatoes I’ve ever had.

That’s when my love for gardening started. Even though it was only two plants, it got me thinking about all the possibilities. Where I live, I don’t have a lot of outdoor space. So I started researching…..

I thought I might get a portable greenhouse. It won’t be real big but for a beginner gardener like myself, it might be perfect to start out with. I’m still researching that possibility. I do know one advantage to having a greenhouse is that the deer won’t bother my plants. Occasionally I will see a deer in the back yard and they do like tomatoes!  I am thinking about getting this one.  Looks like it’s just my size.

I enjoyed growing the tomato plants so much in the summer, that I wanted to do something this winter as far as starting some plants. So began my indoor gardening attempts.  I planted some tomato seeds and even some lettuce and kale. I didn’t have any luck with those.

Some friends on Facebook talked about getting a grow light when doing indoor gardening so that’s what I did. I’m having better luck this time around. Green onions are one of the easiest things to grow. I planted some with the roots in water and planted some in soil and both are doing great. Here’s a couple of pictures I took today –  2 green onion plants in soil.

Here’s some I have in water –

In another planter, I planted some lettuce, basil and cilantro. They are doing better than the first time I tried growing them. Here’s a picture I took today.

Today I also planted some lavender seeds and a tomato slice in separate pots and once they start coming up, I’ll take pictures.

It’s fun for me to grow my own fruits and veggies. Even though I’m just starting out and learning as I go along, the important thing is that I’m having fun with it. And I know there were no chemicals sprayed on these. Fresh and very local :-). That’s healthy eating at its best!

And I’m learning that I love indoor gardening and gardening outside.  It’s all fun!  Living healthy can really be fun and even though I wish I had started a lot earlier, I’m glad I’m living healthy now.  It’s never too late to start!

I can see myself some day with a big greenhouse in the back yard and an herb garden inside and only eating what I grow myself. I’m really looking forward to that day. In the meantime, I will keep learning and growing and sharing my experiences and pictures here on the blog.  Please feel free to leave your comments below or check out my Healthy Eating Fun Facebook page.
